Front Runner – Nandini Ashokumar

Front Runners are exceptional individuals who run for the cause of educating children at Bhumi.
Every stride they take helps Bhumi support the children with their literacy, numeracy and life skills.
Thank you, Front Runners – for taking us forward in this journey of Change.

I am a teacher by profession and a runner by passion. As a teacher, I believe in continually updating and equipping myself to meet the demands and challenges of the modern era.

Running helps you to keep pace with this fast changing world. As a senior member and mentor at one of the most vibrant and energetic group in Chennai, I have played varied roles to support the group. I have completed 9 full marathons and several half marathons. I enjoy pacing and helping runners to achieve their dream target. I also had the opportunity to help the volunteers of Teach for India.

First motivation to run …

I started running in 2013. This happened when a good friend of mine motivated me to join the Independence Day 3k run. This was a brand new experience to me. Though I used to participate in school events, running long distance was something I have never done before. I cannot thank my friend enough for showing me the path to fitness.

An emotion and a positive energy

To me, running is like celebrating one’s soul, expressing the joy and embracing the nature. Running to me is my ‘me’ time where I introspect, analyse and learn various things! It is an emotion and a positive energy that keeps me going. It helps me build self-confidence, set realistic goals and fly high!

Inspiration to keep going: “being together”!

My family members and friends inspire me to do more. They are my daily dose of motivation. It is only because of them I stay motivated! Though I introduced my husband, Ashok, to take up long distance running, today he is my pillar of strength. Now he guides me at every stage from planning the practice run to race strategy.

I personally feel we make quality time inspiring each other with running! Our goal is to stay fit and healthy. We are determined to motivate our kids as well to take up a fitness regime. It is not about the bling, podium or the race for us. It is about being together!

My take on running for a cause

“Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others”.

Running for a good cause not only adds joy but also increases the value of the whole experience! It is a small step to show your concern for people! It makes the activity more meaningful. We can spread smiles as we add miles.

Association with Bhumi

It is indeed a great privilege to support a noble cause by Running for Education. As a teacher, I would like to join the mission and help more kids. I will be glad to take class or support in any way too.
